With the season very rapidly winding down, every single contest is of the upmost importance in order to determine who gets to compete in conference championship games, which will then help to determine who will see a spot in this year’s College Football Playoff.

In the Big Ten alone, there is sure to be much controversy as four of the seven top ranked teams right now come from the Big Ten conference. With Wisconsin and Penn State going up against seemingly easy opponents, it would initially appear as if one of Michigan or Ohio State will drop down to be the fourth ranked in the conference after the matchup between the two and three programs this week. However, with many variables, especially if there is a close game, the ramifications are anybody’s guess. On top of these four, Nebraska may find themselves on the outside looking in now, but with their 13 ranking and being tied in the Big Ten West, With a Wisconsin loss they could certainly move into the Championship game. Likely whichever program becomes the Big Ten Champions should have a spot in the Playoff.

Outside the Big Ten there are still a number of competitive conferences whose championship games should be very important to follow how they play out. It is interesting to see how it will turn out, as the committee is believed to prefer only conference champions in the playoff, but there is a possibility depending how this all plays out that “unwritten rule” may be thrown out the window.
